Tochimochi (rice cake with chestnut)-making experience, konjac-making experience, wasabi soy sauce marinade experience

detail

Experience category Nature Experiences/Culinary Experiences/Traditional Cultural Experiences
Period All seasons except winter
Suitable age group Any age is acceptable if accompanied by a parent, but please inquire in advance.
Number of participants Up to about 5 people
Time required One hour or longer
Things to bring Apron, gloves
Necessity of reservation Accepted (Up to 1 week before arrival)
Experience content You can experience making processed foods from the harvested crops.
After the experience making konjac from konjac potatoes and the experience harvesting wasabi, the stems are grated to make wasabi soy sauce. Sashimi eaten with natural raw wasabi, displaying an elegant sweetness amid its pungency, is exquisite.
The tochimochi-making is also noteworthy. This is mochi (rice cake) containing horse chestnut from the horse chestnut tree, pounded in a mortar along with glutinous mochi rice.
The finished mochi has a brown tint and a unique flavor like that of Chinese herbal medicine, but its bittersweetness and fragrance are delicious and popular.
Horse chestnuts are not often prepared these days as removing the lye is difficult and time-consuming, but they have been prepared from long ago as a rural dish in which the wisdom of old days lives on. Eating them freshly prepared is also an appealing point.

Tomoe, the owner, is also the manager of various of mochi processing plants. When there are at least 10 participants, a mochi-making experience is possible for 1,500 yen per person. (You can eat the mochi on the spot or take it home.)

With a large number of people, a mochi-making experience at a processing factory is possible. (1,500 yen per person)
Mugwort mochi-making and other experiences are also available. Products can be bought by telephone and online.
