Nestled among the red tiled roofs of a neighborhood beside the beautiful 3km coastline of Iwami Seaside Park, this guest house is a renovated old private home built more than 100 years ago.
The representative, Mr. Kurokawa, returned to his hometown from the big city. Using his experiences there, he proposed the idea of the guest house as a way of revitalizing Hashi township. With the cooperation of other locals, he restored and renovated the old private home, landscaped the garden, and established the guest house with his own hands.
The building has a spacious Japanese structure, and its construction and the antiques seen everywhere give you the sense of its century-old history. An impressive fusuma painting made by Mr. Kurokawa's acquaintance can be found on the first floor.
The facility is shared by C-space Tora no Ana, a place relied upon by the townsfolk which offers coffee, canned beer, snacks, and sweets. It also holds sales events for fresh-baked bread, local vegetables, and other products, and many people come in for a coffee as well. Although the events are small, everyone looks forward to them and gathers together, creating a place for the townsfolk to communicate. Everyone in town is invited to join events at Hashi beach, festivals, kagura, and more, and visitors are warmly welcomed to participate as well.

Experience content Enjoy a relaxed exploration of Hashi's streets while looking at a walking map of the town and learning about its history and culture.
When walking through the town, the first thing that jumps out is the many large houses with red roof tiles. Also, many houses have house names written on elegant nameplates made of Iwami yaki ceramic. You can learn about the fascinating town history behind those houses and the best spots from which to view the scenery.
There are many shrines and temples, and Tsuto shrine, the starting point for the portable shrine carried during the autumn festival, sits atop a rise which provides a view of the entire town. As you walk along the streets, nostalgic sights will greet you: the brick smokestack of the Chiyomidori soy sauce brewery, the mural at Santo Denki, and the wells which used to be essential to everyday life. Although there are tourist facilities nearby, such as Shimane Aquarium Aquas and the watch museum which is planned to open in spring 2017, we recommend a more relaxed walk around town.

Experience content This experience allows you to watch a practice session of Iwami Kagura Hashi Shachu close-up and in person at the nearby community center. The group practices every day to deliver the best performance when the time comes; their practices are truly intense. Watching the performers breathing hard and sweating conveys a strong intensity to the audience. If you come to Iwami, we strongly recommend you see the kagura. It is very popular at local festival events, where the performers display the majestic dances of Hachiman, Yamato Takeru, Ebisu, and Orochi. In addition to watching the main stage, seeing behind the scenes will stoke your interest in kagura.

Experience content This experience allows you to enjoy annual events such as the Spring Festival, Hashi Day, athletics meets, the Autumn Festival, and culture festivals together with the townspeople. Held every year on August 4, Hashi Day ("ha" = 8, "shi" = 4) is an event for children at Hashi Beach, where they can smash watermelons, throw tomatoes, run beach flag races, and compete in clamming. The Autumn Festival is a grand annual festival at Tsuto Shrine. Every year the grand festival is held on October 16th, with a kagura performance dedicating the eve of the festival beginning on the night of the 15th and going all night until dawn on the 16th.
During the grand festival on the 16th, the men leave Tsuto Shrine carrying a portable shrine and visit various places around town, where they are treated to sake by the townsfolk, before the procession eventually returns to the shrine. When seen up close, you will feel the pressure from the enthusiasm and passion of the townspeople. Everyone is also warmly welcomed to participate in events held primarily for townspeople, such as athletics meets and culture festivals.
