A big mushroom!

Unnan, a city where legends still live, is home to an inn known as the Yamasato no Yado (Mountain Hamlet Inn). There, you can experience the richness of nature and the blessings of each season. Enjoy the cherry blossoms in spring, watch fireflies or make loofah face lotion in summer and harvest fruits in autumn. You can take part in a variety of agricultural experiences, including planting and harvesting rice, harvesting vegetables, digging up potatoes and collecting mushrooms such as oyster mushrooms. Nearby is Sase Shrine, which has its origins in the legend of the eight-headed snake Yamata no Orochi. You can sense the mysterious history of the old chinquapin tree growing there. We also recommend the rural cooking of the practitioner Fumiko. The available dishes include nishime, tempura chawanmushi, vinegared items and ginger rice. Of course, you can also try your hand at cooking together.

You can harvest winter vegetables and daikon radishes from the fields, or collect oyster mushrooms from the nearby mountain. You can also be guided to Sase Shrine, a location that features in the Yamata no Orochi legend.

This is Sase Shrine.
