Izumo Koshi Kominkajuku sits in the countryside of Izumo, where the Hii River flows majestically. Architect Toshinori Esumi renovated an old private home and began rural tourism activities to teach the richness of lifestyles of health and sustainability. Worked by an architect, this old folk house exudes a feel of comfortable use in its overall space as well as in every detail, including hand-made chairs and shelves.
A feature of this experience is the use of fire. Here you can experience an old-fashioned lifestyle of Japan, such as cooking rice in a kamado cauldron and heating a goemonburo (iron bathtub) with firewood. You can also experience forgotten items of Japanese culture, such as sleeping under a mosquito net in the summer, or heading to dinner holding a single candle amid the autumn breeze under the famous mid-autumn moon.
