The office of "Iwami no Chikara" is found on the premises of Yamabe Shrine located at the southern foot of Tsuruyama, in an intricate townscape a 15-minute walk from Gotsu Station. The historical townscape of Gotsu Honmachi still remains here today, having been carefully preserved thanks to the collaborative efforts of local residents.
You can learn more about the history and culture of Gotsu by walking through the streets alongside a tour guide. This area is packed with wonderful features that you would want to capture in photos, such as the colors and architecture of buildings that exemplify the Taisho Romantic movement, massive urns that have been placed in various spots, and the view along the Gonokawa River flowing nearby. In 2003, this area was recognized as a model district by the "Yumekaido Renaissance Promotion Committee."
The "Council for Promotion of Community-Building Using Historical Buildings in the Honmachi Area" was launched with the aim of fostering a town that residents would want to continue living in by reappraising the rich culture and history of this area. It is currently actively involved in survey and restoration works in the town in order to ensure that the charms of the area can be passed on to future generations.

Along with the "Gotsu Honmachi Walking Tour," you can also experience staying overnight at a Japanese house (Yamabeso) that was built in 1915.

Starting from Yamabe Shrine, which has a long history of over 1300 years, the tour will bring you to mercantile houses, storehouses, as well as retro post offices and old government offices built in the Meiji period and after. As Honmachi was also a logistics base for goods transported by water along the Gonokawa River on boats and cargo ships, among the highlights here are the "Hanaguri Ishi" stones that had served to connect the horse and cattle tasked with carrying goods along the river.

This activity will make you lose track of time with the tour guide's clear explanations and the area's amazing scenery.
